Fuengirola and the Costa del Sol are now even more accessible than ever. By air, the first stop would be Málaga’s Picasso International Airport. This airport links the Costa del Sol to the rest of the world.
The Picasso International Airport has direct flights to and from major Spanish and European cities, and numerous charter flights that connect Costa del Sol, and hence Fuengirola, directly to the rest of the globe.
There are two very easy ways to get Fuengirola from the Málaga airport -- by train and long-distance bus.
From the airport at Málaga, one can access the train station situated outside the airport building. Travelers must have a ticket before boarding the train to avoid being fined heavily. There is an automatic ticket machine in the airport station which accepts Euro coins. Sometimes the machine accepts bills but it is best to be prepared with coins. Travelers must also be aware that the station is a 5-10 minute walk, and there may be complications such as rain or scorching sun. Also, the station is reached by a small flight of stairs. Travelers bringing a lot of heavy luggage are forewarned.
The first train to Fuengirola leaves at 05:54, and has regular trips at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour. The last train leaves at 22:44. Total travel time is 29 minutes. The approximate fare is 3 Euro or less, depending on destination and day of the week.
Alternatively, travelers may take the long-distance bus to Fuengirola. The bus stop is located right outside the main arrival hall at the Málaga airport.
