Benalmádena Pueblo

In the mountainous regions, there are numerous wildlife parks that feature nature trails. These are the Área de recreo de la Cumbre del Calamorro (“Summit of the Calamorro Recreation Area”), Plan de Senderos (“Footpaths”), Sendero de la Mina de la Trinidad (“Footpaths of the Trinidad Mine”), Sendero de los Cazadores (“Footpath of the Hunters”), Sendero de los Lenadores (“Footpath of the Woodcutters”). All these locations feature networks of footpaths up and around the mountainous regions, with rest areas and panoramic viewpoints throughout. The viewpoints offer a spectacular view of the low lying surrounding areas. Also located at the summit of Mount Calamorro is an aviary dedicated to the care and breeding of eagles, hawks, and other species of birds of prey.

Around the surrounding hills, one can also find a number of marked caves. In these caves, ancient artifacts can be seen.

Benalmádena Costa

In Benalmádena Costa, one can find the famous Sea Life Center, the first ever underwater “park” in the entire Costa del Sol. The Sea Life Center features undersea walkways that allow visitors full, unrestricted views of the underwater environment and wildlife. The featured wildlife includes natural predators like sharks, exotic fish like stingrays, octopuses, eels, and sea turtles. The Sea Life Center also has amenities such as a terrace bar with a splendid view of the harbor and a mini golf course with a marine life theme. There are regular feeding demonstrations and exhibitions as well.

Sea Life Center is also a marine wildlife preservation center. Sick and injured marine animals are taken care of and nursed back to health here. There is also a breeding program that breeds select species for reintroduction into the open seas.

Another marine park of note is the Marine Selwo. This marina offers a different type of attraction, featuring mainly marine mammals and marine birds from South America. Marine Selwo offers a glimpse into their natural habitat and behavior.

Benalmádena Costa also has numerous monuments, the most prominent being the Castillo de Bil Bil (“Bil Bil Castle”). This is a castle of Arabic architecture, marked by red plastering of the exterior and bas-reliefs and tiles that demonstrate exquisite traditional Muslim culture.

Another castle in Benalmádena Costa is the Castillo de Colomares (“Castle of Colomares”). This is a monument dedicated to Cristobal Colon and his arrival in the New World. The castle is a tribute to the discovery of America and exhibits a variety of architectural and artistic styles.

There are two structures dedicated to the Buddhist religion. One is the Estupa de la Iluminación (“Estupa of the Illumination”). It is one of the greater Buddhist monuments in the western world. With a height of 33 meters, this monument is crowned by a golden cone and contains murals that depict the most important events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Elsewhere, there is a huge statue dedicated to the enlightened one.

For more scholarly pursuits, the Centro de Exposiciones de Benalmádena (Center of Exhibitions of Benalmádena) and the Museo Arqueologico (Archeological Museum) are two museums that visitors should not fail to visit. The Centro de Exposiciones features a wide range of painting and sculpture works that puts Benalmádena right up there with the rest of the international exhibits of art. The Museo Arqueológico features the best collection of pre-Columbian artifacts in Europe. It also showcases historical bits of Benalmádena that date back to the Paleolithic and the Roman periods. There is also an international library in the main urban area.

In the main urban area, one can find the Parque de la Paloma (“Park of the Dove”). This is the only urban park in the entire Costa del Sol, and features an artificial lake inhabited by ducks, pelicans, turtles, and other wildlife species, and also parrots, rabbits, goats, and ewes elsewhere in the park.

For maritime pleasures, there’s the Centro Náutico (“Nautical Center”) that is dedicated to water sports and nautical activities. A place of sport and social activities, the Center features meeting rooms, assembly halls, a marine tavern and bar, and of course, docks and enclosures for various types of sea-going vehicles. And finally, there are the wonderful beaches of Benalmádena Costa.

Arroyo de la Miel

The Tivoli World is the biggest attraction in Arroyo de la Miel, and the biggest amusement park in the entire Costa del Sol. This is the world renowned park with over 300 varieties of rides. There’s also an open air theater with a 3,000-person seating capacity features live music and traditional dances like the flamenco, concerts by Spanish performers, and many other delights. Amenities include numerous restaurants and bars. A new section called Tivoliandia has been added, offering over 11 rides for children.
